Write a promo message for a Sports App

The brief

Some important words from the brief —

working parent (user persona) — time is always of the essence as the parent is juggling both home and work.

big sports fan (user persona, what may motivate the user) — people are very attached to sports, it's like their first love, its always at the back of their minds/hearts.

midst of a season and cannot attend games (where the user is) — this in a way is a problem and an opportunity for the app.

Above 3 is the context which is so critical to keep in mind when designing any experience including experience with words.

In this case, if you miss any of the above, the user may not connect with the experience.

Keeping in mind the above, the opportunity for the user is the challenge mentioned in the brief that the user can do — choose teams, set and receive game reminders, real-time score updates and highlight videos.

Interestingly the opportunity is keeping in mind the above context — working parent, big sports fan and cannot attend games in the midst of a season.

Version — ONE

Set reminders and catch the highlights of your favourite team’s games, while you do the chores.

Version — TWO

Your favourite sports season is beginning… choose your teams, set reminders to get live scores and catch up on highlights anywhere anytime.

Version-THREE

Too much on your plate and hence unable to catch your favourite sport? Worry not, get live scores and curated highlights based on your favourite teams. What’s more, you can also set reminders when the games start and when the highlights are ready.

Version-FOUR

Don’t have time for a 90 mins game? How about 5 mins?! We will ensure you get all the best moments of the game in 5 mins or less. And we will also send you an update when the highlights are ready.

Version-FIVE

Sports season is around the corner. Subscribe to our reminder service and get updates on live-scores and highlights of the games of your favourite teams.

Version-SIX

Sports season is around the corner, choose your favourite teams, set reminders for live score updates and for match highlights to not miss any of the action from the field.

At this stage, I am not looking for what is the best version, it’s more about attuning myself to writing from a user’s view and the context they are in.

Strongly recommend anyone who works for any product company to start practising writing. Your product will offer a much better experience leading to more happy users which means more often than not — good business!
