One of those phases in life where everything feels pointless…

By all measure or clinically speaking I have no reason to not be motivated. I have a stable, fairly decent job, great Manager, I drive things, my work feels valued more often than not...

And yet here I am…where I am questioning or feeling dazed, asking myself what am I doing and what’s going on.

Symptoms

  1. Feeling goal-less
  2. No drive
  3. Lack of motivation to do anything
  4. Attention-deficit
  5. Everything feels pointless so why even do it

…and so on.

Perhaps its...

the time, from March’20 to November’20 I had a packed schedule when even 24 hours felt short, including weekends and now when it's more relaxed I am having withdrawal symptoms.

the work, what I am doing is not challenging enough or helping me learn and grow or maybe I am feeling stagnant.

the isolation, now that I have time to think and reflect, I am questioning and more intentional of the work I am doing and how I see my career shaping this year and years to come and I am missing a more collaborative environment — something called office!

FOMO, I have always wanted to work outside India in developed places like US, Europe, Singapore and in places like Apple, Google, Facebook..and lately a LOT of people are moving to these countries and into these companies, so a certain tinge of FOMO sets in.

Reason for these countries has a better quality of life for me and my family, especially from a cleaner environment perspective.

Reason for these Companies is less about the Brand they have accumulated but more about working with exceptionally highly talented individuals and to soak in their talent for becoming better me. It’s no denying that “we/you ARE the average of 5 people you hang around with”. And these and many such Companies are REALLY solving some really wicked-problems and the work they roll out impacts BILLIONS of people. So probably work is more meaningful.

Less acceleration of growth, I started working from 2003, made quite a few bad choices then landed up in a team where I couldn't really grow much until 2019 where I changed my team and more importantly my Manager and it suddenly felt like an overnight success. This was when things finally started to fall in place.

So at a deeper level, I know for a fact that compared to my peers/friends/cousins of the same age, I have not done or achieved much by a conventional yardstick. And now I am trying to make it up for that and hence want to really accelerate at many different aspects.

That's all for now! Got back to writing after a long time…felt catharsis just putting out what’s on my mind.

Very eager to know whether you have such phases and how do you come out of it.

Thanks for reading.
